This month, we're excited to introduce Kendall, a mom of almost five and the owner of Kingdom Kids Company, a faith-based handmade kids clothing brand based in Paola, Kansas. What started as a love for sewing and a leap of faith during an uncertain season quickly grew into a thriving business rooted in community, creativity, and purpose. From everyday outfits to milestone moments, Kendall creates handmade clothing, bows, and accessories that families love, all while giving back to the communities she cares about most.

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
Hi! I'm Kendall! I'm from Stilwell, KS and currently live in Paola, almost 11 years now and we absolutely love it. I have four, almost five kiddos. My son Houstin is the oldest, followed by three girls: Bryndall, Brayleigh, and Esther. We are a very active family. We participate in a lot of sports and are constantly looking for new things to do! I coach volleyball, my girls play soccer and do gymnastics, and my son plays football and baseball. A couple of fun facts about me: I own a small business focused on faith-based and Christian handmade clothing, bows, and accessories, and I used to be a barista for four years, which was honestly one of my favorite jobs besides this one!

What inspired you to start your business?
I have always loved sewing. I've been sewing since 8th grade when I took it as an elective, and I never stopped. I started my business in March 2020 at the very beginning of COVID after losing three jobs in one single day. I was a nanny, a waitress, and a barista, and all three were among the first to shut down. Being home with my whole family full-time again inspired me to finally start the business I'd been dreaming about for nearly a year. I officially launched in August 2020, and the rest is history!

What does a typical day look like for you as moms and business owners?
Oh gosh, that's a tough one! We typically start with breakfast, turn on some worship music, and talk through what we need to get done for the day, whether that's chores, school, a doctor's appointment, or a sports practice or game that evening. Once the older kids start school and the morning is wrapped up, that's usually when I shift into business mode. Some days run smoothly, and other days I'm breaking up toddler meltdowns, kissing boo-boos, and opening approximately 47 snack bags, all the things! Once the kids head outside to play, I get a few solid hours in. A typical production day looks like cutting all my orders one day, then sewing the next. After sewing, I iron on tags, take product photos outside, package everything up, and get labels printed and ready to ship. In between all of that, I'm organizing orders, planning preorders, ordering fabrics, doing social media, and wearing all the hats. It's a lot, but I love it!

What has been the most rewarding part of running your business?
I love being able to see my items make people happy. I've always had such joy and pride in creating something meaningful for a customer or for a child. I've been a part of hundreds of special moments, including birthdays, baptisms, holidays, back-to-school, game days, newborn announcements, and even making memory bears for families grieving a lost loved one. Bringing others joy fills me with a deep appreciation for life every single time. I truly just love making people feel like a simple piece of clothing can really matter.

What challenges have you faced balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship?
The biggest struggle I've had, and still work through, is remembering that my babies and myself come first. They're only little for so long, and I've been blessed with a gracious customer base who truly understands that. Early on, I struggled a lot with boundaries. I thought being available all the time would make things easier and better for everyone, but it actually led to some real burnout. Learning to set clear, healthy boundaries in my business has been so crucial, not just for my own wellbeing, but for keeping the fun and passion alive in what I do.

What advice would you give other moms thinking about starting a business?
Don't hesitate, just jump in and try it! There are so many people out there ready and willing to support you and your dream, but it starts with having belief and confidence in yourself. You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to start.

How do you like to spend time together as a family?
We absolutely love a good adventure out of the house. We love trips to local thrift stores, Target runs, Chipotle dates, and cheering on the kids at their games. When we stay home, we do a lot of movie nights and family game nights. There's always something going on, and honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way!
