We’re excited to introduce May’s Mom of the Month, Brooke — a mom of three and the heart behind The Pole Bakery in Osawatomie. What started as a spark from a sourdough class quickly grew into a full-fledged business fueled by passion, creativity, and a deep love for her family. Between raising three young girls and building her dream from the ground up, Brooke is proof that when something lights you up, it’s worth going all in.

Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
Hi! My name is Brooke Goddard and I am a mom of 3 girls. I moved to Osawatomie almost 10 years ago now and met my husband while working at the Osawatomie State Hospital (we were both technicians and he is now a nurse at that same hospital). Our girls are ages 5, 3 and 1 and they are my reason why I work so hard! I pour every ounce of extra energy I have into my business in hopes that when my girls get older they can see that your dreams can come true and you can make a living off something you truly love to do. I do everything for my family and the generations to come! My girls names are Stassi (5), Vivienne (3), and Penelope (1).
What inspired you to start your business?
I took a sourdough class and that day I knew something within me changed. I had already found my love of pole fitness and the sourdough put a spark in me just as dance did. When I feel that I go for it.
What does a typical day look like for you as moms and business owners?
Crazy. Fridays for example, I wake up and mix all my dough before the kids get up. Drop off orders, prep everything for market, take care of the girls. I will say it has gotten a lot smoother but that first year of doing the business and having babies was a lot!
What has been the most rewarding part of running your business?
Getting to stay home with my girls.
What challenges have you faced balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship?
Stress, constantly changing emotions, keeping my head on straight. As a girl we are at the mercy of our cycle. It's true and its hard, especially when a business is best run consistently well. That can be difficult but I make do.
What advice would you give other moms thinking about starting a business?
Don't think too much just go for it! Also don't put too much money into it when you first start out.
How do you like to spend time together as a family?
We like to play outside, go on bike rides, run, pool time, lake time, canoeing!
