Mom of the Month: Meet Sheena – Mom, Owner of Orchid Brow Studio & Orchid Fineline Tattoo

This month, we're thrilled to introduce you to Sheena, a dedicated mom of three and the creative force behind two incredible businesses: Orchid Brow Studio Ink and Orchid Fineline Tattoo. Whether she’s boosting confidence through cosmetic tattooing or creating meaningful, delicate body art, Sheena is passionate about helping people feel beautiful in their own skin.
Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
After living in Spring Hill, Kansas for 10 years with my wonderful husband and three beautiful daughters, I made a significant change in my life in 2020. Moving here 16 years ago from California was a big decision, and so was leaving behind my 15-year career as a cosmetologist. While I loved my time in that field, I felt ready for a new challenge, a fresh adventure.
What inspired you to start your businesses?
When I first encountered "microblading," I was absolutely captivated. The idea of skillfully recreating eyebrows, giving back shape and definition to those who had lost or over-tweezed their brows over the years, just blew me away. It was a scary prospect to leave the familiar comfort of my cosmetology career, but the excitement of learning this new artistic skill and the opportunity to help people in such a tangible way truly motivated me.
What does a typical day look like for you as a mom and business owner?
A typical day at my studio involves cosmetic tattooing and creating beautiful, fine-line tattoo pieces. I specialize in permanent makeup services like Nanoblading, Eyeliner, and Lip Blushing, and I have a particular fondness for designing floral tattoos.
What has been the most rewarding part of running your business?
The most rewarding part of being a tattoo artist extends beyond the technical skill. It's the deep connections I build with my clients and the sheer joy I see on their faces when they are happy with the results. Creating eyebrows that beautifully frame a client's face truly gives them a sense of renewed confidence, making them look and feel more youthful.
What challenges have you faced balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship?
Balancing a business with family life is certainly a learning process. I'm constantly working on prioritizing my days and finding that delicate balance to be present and effective in all areas of my life. Being a mother is my absolute top priority, and while I cherish my work at Orchid Brow Studio, my family always comes first. Having the ability to structure my work hours around my personal life has been a fantastic benefit of running my own business.
What advice would you give to other moms thinking about starting their own business?
Fear almost held me back from this new career path, but I am incredibly grateful that through hard work and determination, I persevered. Now, at 40, I'm eager to continue learning, growing, and exploring new creative possibilities. To anyone considering a similar leap, I want to say that it's okay to feel scared, but I truly believe you can do it. Just be sure you're prepared for the dedication and sacrifices that running a business demands.
How do you and your family like to spend time together when you're not working?
When I am not at the studio, my family enjoys spending time together doing activities like playing sports and being outdoors, shopping trips, camping adventures, watching 90's movies, having competitive board game sessions, playing hairdresser, and attending church.
